Write for Home - Orphanhealthcare
Home - Orphanhealthcare is read by families affected by rare disease, the clinicians and researchers who work with them, and the small charities that fund and organise care. Many arrive looking for something they have not found elsewhere: a plain account of a condition, a practical route to support, or a clear explanation of how a charity actually spends its money. When you write for us, you are writing for people who often need the information quickly and cannot afford to wade through jargon.
A contribution reaches readers who are already searching for the subject you know well. We are a small publication, so a well-researched piece stays visible, gets read, and is passed between patient groups and clinics. If you have direct experience of rare disease, charity work, or health policy, this is a useful place to put it.
What we publish
- Explanations of specific rare diseases, written for patients and families rather than specialists.
- First-hand accounts of diagnosis, treatment, and the years in between.
- How small charities are run: governance, fundraising, volunteers, and where the money goes.
- Access to treatment, orphan drugs, and the practical side of navigating health systems.
- Research news and clinical trials, explained without overstating what the evidence shows.
- Carer support, respite, and the effect of rare disease on family life.
Guest posts and sponsored articles
We accept both contributed editorial and sponsored placements. A guest post is written by you and edited by us; a sponsored post is paid for by an organisation with an interest in the subject. Both are permanent once published and indexed by search engines. Editorial links in contributed pieces are dofollow. Where a sponsored post requires disclosure, we label it clearly at the top. Pricing is available on request. Turnaround is normally three to five working days from an accepted draft.
Guidelines
- Original and unpublished work. We do not republish material that has appeared elsewhere.
- 800 words or more. Shorter pieces are considered only when the subject genuinely does not need the length.
- One or two relevant links. They should support the piece, not pad it.
- No gambling, adult, or pharmaceutical content.
- An author bio is optional. If you supply one, keep it to two or three sentences.
- We edit for house style, clarity, and accuracy. You will see the edited draft before it goes live.
How to pitch
If you would like to submit an article, email guestpost@orphanhealthcare.org with the subject line "Guest post: <topic>", for example "Guest post: paying for travel to specialist appointments". Include a short outline of what you intend to cover and a link to past work or a writing sample. If you have not published before but have direct experience of the subject, say so and send a few paragraphs of the proposed piece instead. We read every pitch and reply to those we can use, usually within a week. Our contributor guidelines above apply to every submission, so please read them before you send anything.
Questions about a pitch, a draft, or a sponsored post can go to the same address: guestpost@orphanhealthcare.org. We would rather answer a query early than have you write something we cannot use.
